Calculator and housing budget planning

Morocco listings are negotiated in Moroccan dirhams (MAD). If your income is in USD or CAD, you need a clean way to compare apartments without rewriting every price by hand. BabDar’s currency display helps — but smart budgeting still follows a few rules.

Rule 1 — Anchor on the MAD number

FX apps move daily. Treat USD/CAD views as decision support, then confirm the MAD asking price on the listing before you offer. Your notaire and bank will work in MAD for the Moroccan side of the transaction.

Rule 2 — Use From/To filters in your currency mindset

On BabDar’s map search, set price From and To while your active currency is USD or CAD so the shortlist matches what you can actually pay. Then open the strongest homes and re-check MAD.

Search Casablanca with map filters and your preferred currency.

Rule 3 — Budget the full stack

  • Purchase price (MAD) + notaire / registration costs
  • Agency fees if applicable
  • Renovation and furnishing (often underestimated from abroad)
  • Travel for visits and closing
  • Ongoing condo charges (syndic) and utilities

Rule 4 — Compare apples to apples on area

US and Canadian buyers think in sqft; Morocco lists in m². BabDar shows both so a “120 m²” apartment is not mysterious. Price per m² is often more honest than emotional reactions to a single headline number.
